  • Blessed with the most stunning natural setting, Rio de Janeiro is a city that is as famous for its beauty as it is for its beach culture. Stretching up into the mountains that hug glistening Guanabara Bay is the city’s vast Tijuca National Park, which hosts the famous Corcovado Mountain.

From beautiful vistas and iconic locations, to some of the areas that have helped make this city the melting pot that it is, you’re sure to find Rio a captivating and complex place that will steal your heart forever.

Kick off your Rio tour with a bird’s eye view of the city from the base of the Statue of Christ. This enormous white statue keeps constant watch over Rio, offering sweeping 360 degree views of the city’s natural wonders: beaches, lagoons, forests, bays, and mountains that seem to rise from the ocean.

It’s no wonder that the ‘Cristo’ statue (as it’s known by locals) was selected as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. Soak up the views, pick out some of Rio’s most famous sights, and snap a must-have picture before getting a very different view of the city.

Next, it’s time to trade in this tourist icon for something less visited, the back streets of the Copacabana and Leme neighborhoods. Accompanied by your local Urban Adventures guide, you’ll wander through the area tasting local snacks, sipping refreshing beer and learning all about the lifestyle and beach culture of this quintessential area.

We’ll fill you in on all the important info you’ll need for your stay in town as we discover some hotspots in both the Copacabana and Leme neighbourhoods. We’ll show you a perspective that most visitors to Rio don’t get and you’ll learn how to enjoy the beach at its best.

Please note: The order of the attractions visited and the transportation taken might change on the day to better suit the logistics

Ms. cynthia l s. from USA travelled on 25 May 2016:

Our guide was wonderful. He explained everything right down to how long it would take to walk somewhere.

Ms. Maria Teresa H. from Mexico travelled on 11 Apr 2016:

I really didn’t know what to expect, but my experience was really awesome. I didn’t ask for my guide’s name, but he was GREAT.

Ms. Ashlea R. from United Kingdom travelled on 29 Aug 2015:

I had an absolutely outstanding experience in Ivan’s hands. He is outstandingly knowledgeable, charismatic and obviously loves Rio. The favela tour was an eye-opening experience and an absolutely privilege. I have submitted a more detailed review to TripAdvisor. As Manager of Flight Centre Trafalgar Square, London I will be recommending this product to all of my clients.

Mr. Steve S. from Australia travelled on 15 Feb 2013:

Overall an amazing tour, excellent tour guide (Luiz) and a great experience we will remember for a long time 🙂

Urban Adventures were really accommodating to change our day because we missed the pick up time. We were surprised to find that it was only us + our tour guide Luiz.
The tour of the favela was excellent and we felt very safe with our knowledgeable guide. The second part of our tour to the Christ statue was marred by a single cloud in the whole of Rio that happened be right at the top where the statue was – even Luiz couldn’t fix that !

Ms. Maria H. from Australia travelled on 16 Nov 2012:

The Santa Marta favela tour was the top experience of my entire trip to Rio. The guide had excellent knowledge, I got to see the whole picture and it really made a consisting impression on me.

Ms. Kerry H. from Australia travelled on 23 Oct 2012:

Luiz was an excellent guide and passionate about his subject matter, of which he was extremely knowledgeable. In particular he spoke with a love of the people and history of the favelas, in particular Santa Marta, which we visited, and which I was most interested to see. I was certainly not disappointed, and the tour exceeded my expectations entirely. I would not hesitate to recommend the tour and Luiz as a guide to anyone.
