It is quite easy, as you walk down the Ipanema streets, to listen to people whistling the famous song “The Girl from Ipanema” that has made the neighborhood famous worldwide through the voice of the singer Astrud Gilberto.
What most of visitors doesn’t know are the names of both the song writers and the girl who inspired them. Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes used to have have drinks at Veloso bar in Ipanema as Helô Pinheiro often walked down the street. The “Girl from Ipanema” used to live on Montenegro Street and only knew she was the inspiration for the song, two and a half years later when she was already dating someone else...
