A Stairway to Madness

Jorge Selarón is the most “Brazilian” Chilean Artist that Rio de Janeiro has ever seen. He has painted and sculpted in over 50 countries all around the world and has decided to settle in Rio, the city he is most passionate about.

In 1990, he started decorating a stairway in the Bohemian neighborhood of Lapa which also connects it to Santa Teresa. The colorful and living stairway is covered by tiles from over 80 countries around the world and the numbers of tiles has reached more than 2000 pieces. He is a show-man and a visit to the “monument” is a must nowadays as you will get deeper into his madness.
